Native apps Vs mobile web apps?
From a development perspective there are quite a few differences and which typs of application you require depends on the phone features you need to use.
Mobile web apps are written for and run in the mobile Safari web browser.
This means they use industry standard HTML and Javacript technologies augmented by some iOS specific enhancements to deliver an application that can look just like a Native App.
The main limitation of Mobile Web Apps on the iOS platform is that they only access a small portion of the phone's physical features.
However, one of the advantages is that they can be distributed from any web server without having to be approved by Apple. This can lead to a much faster development cycle.
Native Apps are written using the same technologies that drive the core of the iOS platform.
Although this does make them more complex to create, it gives the developer access to a much broader selection of device capabilities. All Native Apps are distributed through the Apple iTunes store and are subject to the Apple approval process.
Apple’s iOS platform is not the only Mobile Platform out there.
Competition in the mobile space is intense with excellent offerings such as Android, Symbian, and Windows Phone 7.
